Refund and Cancellation Policy
Effective Date: 9 September 2026Last Updated: 9 September 2026
GARI Governance Consultancy Services ("GARI", "we", "our" or "us") is committed to providing high-quality governance, leadership, learning, training and consultancy services.
This Refund & Cancellation Policy explains the circumstances under which payments made for GARI's courses, programmes, training, events and other services may be cancelled, transferred or refunded.
This Policy should be read together with GARI's Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy.
Where a specific course, programme, proposal, invoice, engagement agreement or registration page contains different refund terms, those specific terms will apply to that particular service, provided they are consistent with applicable law.
Nothing in this Policy is intended to limit any mandatory consumer or other legal rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.
1. SCOPE OF THIS POLICY
This Refund & Cancellation Policy applies, where applicable, to payments made for:
- Online courses;
- Digital learning programmes;
- Physical training programmes;
- Workshops;
- Seminars;
- Conferences;
- Executive education programmes;
- Governance programmes;
- Leadership programmes;
- Professional development programmes;
- Registration fees;
- Event participation;
- Consultancy services; and
- Other paid GARI programmes or services.
Different refund arrangements may apply depending on the nature and stage of the service.
2. IMPORTANT PRINCIPLE
GARI's refund eligibility is generally determined by:
- The type of service purchased;
- The cancellation date;
- Whether the service has already commenced;
- Whether digital content has already been accessed;
- Whether GARI has incurred non-refundable costs;
- The terms communicated at the time of purchase or registration; and
- Applicable law.
Participants are therefore encouraged to review the applicable programme-specific cancellation terms before making payment.
3. ONLINE COURSES AND DIGITAL LEARNING
Online courses require special consideration because access to digital content may be provided immediately after payment.
3.1 Cancellation before access
Where a participant requests cancellation before accessing the course or digital learning materials, GARI may provide a refund, subject to:
- The applicable programme terms;
- Any clearly disclosed administrative charges;
- Payment processing costs where appropriately disclosed; and
- Applicable law.
3.2 Cancellation after course access
Once a participant has accessed substantial course content, downloaded restricted materials, completed learning activities or otherwise commenced the course, the payment may become non-refundable, subject to applicable law.
This is because digital educational content may have already been delivered and made available to the participant.
GARI may, at its discretion, consider:
- Partial refunds;
- Course transfers;
- Deferrals; or
- Credits
where there are exceptional circumstances.
4. COURSE TRANSFERS
Where a participant is unable to continue with a course, GARI may, at its discretion, allow the participant to transfer their registration to:
- Another course;
- A future cohort;
- Another available programme; or
- Another eligible participant nominated by the original purchaser, where permitted.
Transfers are subject to:
- Availability;
- Eligibility requirements;
- Administrative requirements;
- Any difference in programme fees; and
- The specific programme terms.
A transfer is not automatically guaranteed.
5. PHYSICAL TRAINING, WORKSHOPS AND EVENTS
For physical training programmes, workshops, seminars and events, cancellation requests should be submitted in writing.
Unless different programme-specific terms apply, the following framework may be used:
More than 14 days before the programme
A participant may request:
- A full refund; or
- Transfer to a future programme,
subject to any disclosed non-refundable third-party costs.
7–14 days before the programme
A participant may be eligible for:
- Transfer to a future programme; or
- A partial refund,
at GARI's discretion and subject to programme-specific costs.
Less than 7 days before the programme
Refunds may not ordinarily be available because GARI may already have incurred costs relating to:
- Trainers;
- Venues;
- Catering;
- Materials;
- Technology;
- Travel;
- Administration; and
- Other programme arrangements.
Where appropriate, GARI may offer a transfer or credit instead.
6. FAILURE TO ATTEND
Failure to attend a programme without providing appropriate notice does not automatically create an entitlement to a refund.
This includes where a participant:
- Does not attend;
- Arrives after the programme has commenced;
- Leaves before completion; or
- Is unable to participate because of circumstances within their control.
Where appropriate, GARI may offer a transfer to a future programme at its discretion.
7. CANCELLATION BY GARI
GARI may occasionally need to cancel, postpone or significantly modify a programme.
Reasons may include:
- Insufficient registration;
- Trainer or facilitator availability;
- Technical problems;
- Venue issues;
- Operational requirements;
- Security concerns;
- Force majeure;
- Government restrictions;
- Health or safety considerations; or
- Other circumstances beyond GARI's reasonable control.
Where GARI cancels a paid programme and no suitable alternative is accepted by the participant, GARI will provide the applicable refund in accordance with the programme terms and applicable law.
Where appropriate, participants may instead be offered:
- Transfer to another date;
- Transfer to another cohort;
- Credit toward another programme; or
- An alternative programme.
8. PROGRAMME RESCHEDULING
Where GARI reschedules a programme rather than cancelling it, registered participants will be informed of the new date or delivery arrangement.
Participants may be offered:
- Transfer to the new date;
- Transfer to another cohort;
- Programme credit; or
- A refund where required by the applicable programme terms or law.
9. CONSULTANCY SERVICES
Refunds for consultancy, advisory, facilitation or professional services are governed primarily by the relevant:
- Proposal;
- Engagement letter;
- Statement of work;
- Consultancy agreement;
- Service agreement; or
- Other written agreement.
Because consultancy work may involve preparation, research, staff allocation, travel, third-party costs and other commitments, amounts already earned or costs already incurred may not be refundable.
Where a Client cancels a consultancy engagement, GARI may be entitled to payment for:
- Work already completed;
- Work already delivered;
- Non-refundable expenses;
- Third-party costs;
- Preparation already undertaken; and
- Other amounts contractually agreed.
The specific engagement agreement should establish the applicable cancellation terms.
10. SUBSCRIPTIONS OR RECURRING SERVICES
Where GARI introduces subscription-based services or recurring payments, the applicable subscription terms will specify:
- Billing frequency;
- Renewal arrangements;
- Cancellation deadlines;
- Refund eligibility;
- Proration, where applicable; and
- Termination requirements.
Unless otherwise stated, cancelling a recurring service will normally prevent future charges but will not automatically create a refund for a period already paid for and commenced.
Mandatory legal rights remain unaffected.
11. DUPLICATE OR INCORRECT PAYMENTS
If you believe that you have:
- Been charged twice;
- Paid the wrong amount;
- Been charged after cancellation; or
- Experienced another payment processing error,
please contact GARI as soon as possible.
Where GARI confirms that a duplicate or erroneous charge occurred, the relevant amount will be refunded using the appropriate payment method, subject to verification.
12. FAILED OR REVERSED TRANSACTIONS
If a payment is unsuccessful, reversed or otherwise not received by GARI, registration or access to the relevant Service may not be confirmed.
Participants should not assume that a registration is complete until GARI or the relevant learning platform provides confirmation.
13. REFUNDS ARISING FROM TECHNICAL PROBLEMS
GARI aims to ensure that participants can access its online learning services.
Where a participant experiences a genuine technical problem that materially prevents access to a paid digital programme, they should contact GARI promptly.
GARI may first attempt to resolve the issue by:
- Restoring access;
- Providing technical support;
- Extending the access period;
- Providing an alternative method of access; or
- Transferring the participant to another cohort.
Where the problem cannot reasonably be resolved and applicable law or programme terms provide for a refund, GARI will consider an appropriate refund.
14. PAYMENT PROCESSING FEES
Where a refund is approved, GARI may deduct payment processing or transaction-related charges where:
- Such deductions were clearly disclosed before payment; and
- They are permitted by applicable law.
GARI will not impose unreasonable or undisclosed deductions.
15. REFUND METHOD
Approved refunds will generally be made using the original payment method.
Where the original payment method cannot reasonably be used, GARI may request additional information to facilitate the refund.
GARI will not normally issue refunds to a different person or account without appropriate verification.
16. REFUND PROCESSING TIME
Once a refund has been approved, GARI will initiate the refund within a reasonable period.
The time required for the funds to appear in the participant's account may depend on:
- The payment provider;
- Bank processing times;
- Card issuer;
- International payment systems; or
- Other financial institutions.
GARI cannot control processing times imposed by third-party financial institutions.
17. HOW TO REQUEST A REFUND
Refund requests should be submitted in writing to:
Email: info@gariconsultants.com
Please include:
- Full name;
- Email address used during registration;
- Programme or course name;
- Date of purchase;
- Payment reference or transaction number;
- Amount paid;
- Reason for the refund request; and
- Preferred contact details.
GARI may request additional information where necessary to verify the transaction.
18. REFUND REVIEW
GARI will review refund requests based on:
- The applicable programme terms;
- The date of the request;
- Whether access or services have commenced;
- The extent of services already provided;
- Costs already incurred;
- The reason for cancellation;
- Any applicable contractual terms; and
- Applicable law.
GARI may request reasonable supporting documentation where a refund request is based on exceptional circumstances.
19. EXCEPTIONAL CIRCUMSTANCES
GARI recognises that circumstances may arise that make participation impossible or unreasonable.
Examples may include:
- Serious illness;
- Bereavement;
- Significant family emergency;
- Natural disaster;
- Travel restrictions;
- Major disruption;
- Other circumstances genuinely beyond the participant's reasonable control.
Where appropriate evidence is provided, GARI may consider:
- Full or partial refund;
- Programme transfer;
- Deferral;
- Credit; or
- Another reasonable solution.
Exceptional circumstances do not automatically guarantee a refund.
20. FRAUDULENT OR UNAUTHORISED TRANSACTIONS
If you believe a payment has been made using your payment method without your authorisation, you should immediately contact your bank or payment provider and notify GARI.
GARI may investigate suspected fraudulent transactions and may suspend associated accounts or registrations while an investigation is conducted.
21. FRAUDULENT REFUND CLAIMS
GARI reserves the right to investigate refund requests where there are reasonable grounds to suspect:
- Fraud;
- Misrepresentation;
- Unauthorised account use;
- Abuse of a refund policy;
- Manipulation of course access;
- False claims; or
- Other misuse of GARI's Services.
A refund may be withheld while such an investigation is conducted, subject to applicable law.
22. COURSE ACCESS AFTER A REFUND
Where a refund has been approved, GARI may terminate or restrict access to the relevant:
- Course;
- Learning materials;
- Learning platform;
- Programme;
- Certificate; or
- Other paid content.
Continued use of paid course materials after receiving a refund may constitute unauthorised use.
23. CERTIFICATES AND REFUNDS
Where a participant receives a refund after a course has commenced, GARI may, where appropriate:
- Cancel course access;
- Withdraw eligibility for certification;
- Cancel an unissued certificate; or
- Require the return or deletion of restricted learning materials.
This will depend on the circumstances and applicable programme terms.
24. NON-REFUNDABLE ITEMS
Unless otherwise stated, certain costs may be non-refundable where they have already been incurred or where the nature of the service makes them non-refundable.
These may include:
- Third-party platform charges;
- Venue costs;
- Catering;
- Travel;
- Accommodation;
- Customised materials;
- Third-party professional services;
- Services already delivered; and
- Other costs expressly identified as non-refundable before purchase.
Any non-refundable charges should be clearly communicated to the Client or participant before payment.
25. GROUP AND CORPORATE BOOKINGS
Different cancellation terms may apply to:
- Corporate training;
- Group registrations;
- Institutional programmes;
- Sponsored programmes;
- Board programmes; and
- Other organisational engagements.
These terms will be set out in the applicable proposal, quotation, contract or programme agreement.
Where a group booking is made by an organisation, the organisation may be responsible for payment in accordance with the applicable agreement even where individual participants subsequently fail to attend.
26. TRANSFER OF REGISTRATION
Where permitted, a participant may request that their registration be transferred to another eligible participant.
GARI may require:
- Written notice;
- Details of the replacement participant;
- Confirmation of eligibility; and
- Completion of administrative requirements.
Transfer requests are subject to programme capacity and other applicable conditions.
27. PROMOTIONAL PRICES AND DISCOUNTS
Promotional prices, discounts, scholarships, special offers or sponsored places may have specific refund conditions.
Unless otherwise stated, discounts or promotional benefits may not be transferable or refundable as cash.
Where a refund is approved for a discounted purchase, the refund will generally be based on the actual amount paid rather than the standard undiscounted price.
28. SCHOLARSHIPS, SPONSORED PLACES AND FREE PROGRAMMES
Where participation is provided through:
- Scholarship;
- Sponsorship;
- Grant funding;
- Complimentary registration; or
- Other non-paid arrangements,
there is generally no monetary refund because no participant fee was paid.
Specific programme terms may apply.
29. DATA PROTECTION AND REFUND REQUESTS
When you submit a refund request, GARI may process personal data necessary to:
- Verify your identity;
- Verify the transaction;
- Assess your request;
- Communicate with you;
- Process the refund; and
- Maintain appropriate financial and administrative records.
Personal data will be processed in accordance with GARI's Privacy Policy and applicable data protection law, including the GDPR where applicable.
30. PAYMENT PROVIDERS
Refunds may involve third-party payment processors, banks, card providers or other financial institutions.
GARI is not responsible for delays caused solely by a third-party payment provider after GARI has initiated an approved refund.
31. CHANGES TO THIS REFUND POLICY
GARI may update this Refund & Cancellation Policy from time to time.
Changes may be made to reflect:
- Changes in our programmes;
- Changes in payment systems;
- Changes in our business practices;
- Changes in applicable legal requirements; or
- Other legitimate operational requirements.
The updated policy will be published on the Website with a revised "Last Updated" date.
Changes will not normally affect a purchase already completed where the participant has contractual rights under the terms applicable at the time of purchase.
32. RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHER TERMS
This Refund & Cancellation Policy should be read together with:
- GARI Terms & Conditions;
- GARI Privacy Policy;
- Programme-specific terms;
- Course registration terms;
- Consultancy agreements;
- Payment terms; and
- Other applicable contractual documents.
Where a specific written agreement provides different cancellation or refund terms, that agreement will govern the relevant transaction, subject to applicable law.
33. APPLICABLE DATA PROTECTION REQUIREMENTS
Where the GDPR applies to GARI's processing of personal data, GARI will process personal information associated with refunds, payments and customer administration in accordance with applicable GDPR requirements.
Nothing in this Refund Policy limits an individual's rights under applicable data protection legislation.
